Volkswagen expands ID family with new ID.4 GTX model
Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID.4 GTX, the brands first fully electric high-performance model.
The new model is a sportier version of VW’s all-electric SUV and can achieve 0 to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds thanks to an electrical output of 220 kW.
The release of the ID.4 GTX is another step in Volkswagen’s pursuit of becoming the world’s most sustainable mobility brand, with a target of increasing the sales of purely electric vehicles in Europe to 70% by 2030.
Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen, commented: “Electric driving is simply great fun – and with the ID.4 GTX we are adding a new dimension of sportiness and dynamics. The most emotional member of the ID. family to date shows that electric mobility and top sporty performance are not mutually exclusive.”
News of the GTX model follows Volkswagen’s announcement of the ID.6, a new seven-seater SUV which will only be available in China as the firm looks to capitalise on its biggest electric vehicle market.
The ID.4 GTX features newly designed bumpers and the rear features a 3D LED tail light cluster with brake lights that form the shape of an X.
Thomas Ulbrich, member of the board of management for development, added: “The full torque of the electric powertrain is immediately available and you can feel the excellent vehicle handling in every bend.
“What’s more, the innovative operating and safety concept is just as intelligent as the drive train! For example, the driver is supported by the unique augmented reality head-up display and comprehensive assist systems.”
The GTX model is on sale now in Germany for around £43,500 and will be available in the UK later this year.
