New Jeep Compass goes electric with 370bhp and 4WD

The new 2025 Jeep Compass has been revealed, offering a choice of three all-electric powertrains for the first time.

The third-generation Jeep Compass is the first to get a pure EV option as Jeep’s C-segment SUV prepares to compete with the Ford Explorer, Skoda Enyaq, Peugeot E-3008 and others in a crowded segment.

Three all-electric versions are offered, including two front-wheel-drive models. Entry-level cars get 210bhp, and while Jeep hasn’t provided details of the second FWD variant, we would assume it’s the same 227bhp unit found in the Citroen C5 Aircross.

At the top of the range is a 370bhp all-wheel-drive setup featuring a bespoke rear motor. This provides an additional 66bhp of peak power and up to 171lb ft torque boost. Mated to a 14:1 rear reducer, that provides a huge 2,286lb ft of torque to the rear wheels, which means the Compass can climb a 20% slope, even with zero traction on the front wheels.

The most efficient electric version of the Compass will offer up to 403 miles on a charge of its 97kWh battery, while a 73kWh unit will also be offered. DC charging of 160kW will allow a 20-80% charge in 30 minutes, and 22kW AC charging is standard.

The new Jeep Compass is based on the same STLA Medium platform as the Peugeot E-3008, Vauxhall Grandland and Citroen C5 Aircross. It retains an obvious visual connection with the previous generation, while also bringing in hints of the compact Jeep Avenger. Jeep’s trademark seven-slat grille has been retained, as have the boxy wheelarches and sharp, square features lines around the bodywork. Scratch-resistant lower body cladding copies that fitted to the smaller Avenger and reinforced bumpers are designed to shrug off minor bumps while being easy to replace.

That’s part of Jeep’s efforts to position the Compass as a more rugged alternative to its rivals. The Compass gets a ground clearance boost over its Stellantis siblings – two-wheel-drive models offer 200mm, with four-wheel-drive ones offering an unspecified improvement over that and the regular 470mm wading capability. Short overhangs also allow for better approach and departure angles compared with longer stablemates.

The new Jeep Compass is 15cm longer than before, offering an extra 5.5cm of rear legroom and 45 litres more boot space – taking it to a competitive 550l. Inside, the 2025 model has been updated with a new infotainment system that pairs a 16-inch central touchscreen with a a 10-inch digital instrument cluster. In addition, the Compass comes with a head-up display, semi-automatic lane change and matrix LED headlights.

Orders for the First Edition trim, which features the 210bhp motor and offers up to 310 miles or range, will open this summer ahead of deliveries in the final quarter of the year.
