New Citroen C5 Aircross goes electric, brings 422-mile range
Citroen has revealed an all-new version of its flagship C5 Aircross including an electric model promising over 400 miles of range.
The second generation Citroen C5 Aircross is built on the same Stellantis STLA Medium platform as the Peugeot E-3008 and Vauxhall Grandland, allowing for multiple powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric.
Due to go on sale in the second half of 2025, the new C5 Aircross comes with a choice of two electric powertrains. Standard range cars use a 73kWh battery and 207bhp motor to offer up to 323 miles of range. An extended range model boosts power to 227bhp and introduces Stellantis’ 97kWh battery, which should provide up to 422 miles of range and put the new model among the longest-range EVs on sale.
Three driving modes help prioritise efficiency or performance and there are three levels of braking regeneration to aid energy recuperation. AC charging of 11kW is standard, with 22kW charging set to be offered from 2026, alongside vehicle-to-load capabilities. DC charging of 160kW should take the larger battery from 20-80% in 27 minutes.
Alongside the all-electric variant, the Citroen C5 Aircross will be available as a full hybrid and 192bhp plug-in hybrid offering up to 53 miles of electric-only range.

The new C5 Aircross is 15cm longer than before and its design brings some of the more angular elements of the E-C3 and E-C3 Aircross in place of the previous generation’s softer styling. Citroen says this sharper design not only gives the new C5 Aircross a confident road presence but helps it cut through the air more efficiently, aiding range and performance. However, it has retained a boxy traditional SUV shape rather than the popular coupe-SUV design, in order to preserve interior space.
Inside, a new ‘Sofa Design’ aesthetic aims to bring a living room feel to the C5 Aircross. There’s a low, fabric-coated dashboard featuring slimline 10-inch digital instruments that are supplemented by a head-up display in higher trim levels. There’s also a huge portrait ‘Cascade’ touchscreen that flows into the floating centre console, under which is a wide open storage space. The screen – the largest fitted to any Citroen – features a combination of fixed elements for key data and HVAC controls, and a customisable central panel for navigation and media controls. It also supports wireless Android and Apple phone mirroring for two devices at once.
Like all Citroens, the new C5 Aircross features the brand’s patented Advanced Comfort seat and suspension which, experience tells us, will offer unparalleled comfort. Also focused on comfort, Citroen says the new model offers “immense” space for rear seat passengers. The wheelbase is 6cm longer than before, creating 5cm more kneeroom than the previous C5 Aircross. There’s also nearly 7cm more headroom and a class-leading 651 litres of boot space.
Citroen hasn’t given any indication of pricing yet, but we would expect the C5 Aircross to sit somewhere between the £36,000 Grandland and £45,000 E-3008 when it arrives later this summer.
