ID Buzz gets new charging tech, one-pedal driving and proper buttons
Volkswagen has updated its family-friendly ID Buzz to make it more flexible and easier to use.
The updates for summer 2026 include a revised infotainment system with additional features, expanded driver assistance systems and a new steering wheel, along with additional charging support.
For the first time, the ID Buzz now features vehicle-to-load capability. This bi-directional charging means owners can power electronic devices from the vehicle’s drive battery. Anything from a laptop to an e-bike can be recharged via the van’s regular charging port using a special adaptor.
In another first for the characterful people carrier, the updated Buzz offers Polestar-style one-pedal driving, allowing the van to be brought to a complete stop by releasing the accelerator, rather than the current 3mph creep.
Also new for the ID Buzz is a steering wheel with proper physical buttons. After much criticism of the original smooth haptic controls, and in keeping with other updated models such as the ID.3 Neo, VW has replaced them with traditional switches for easier operation.

Under the surface, VW has updated the ID Buzz to its latest Innovision infotainment system with a new app store. It says this will allow owners to purchase and activate new features over the air and to access vehicle-specific functions.
It has also upgraded its travel assist system and renamed it Connected Travel Assist. For the first time, this option package can now respond to traffic lights and, in conjunction with the one-pedal system can bring the vehicle to a complete stop at a red light.
The rest of the ID Buzz specification remains the same. Buyers can choose from a standard five-seat body or long-wheelbase seven-seat variant, with a six-seat option available. Five-seat modesl use a 282bhp rear-mounted motor and 79kWh battery to deliver up to 282 miles of range. Long-wheelbase models get a battery boost to 86kWh which delivers 292 miles despite the added weight. At the top of the range, the all-wheel-drive GTX follows the same battery deployment but uses two motors to deliver 336bhp and up to 280 miles of range.
