Chery Delivan delivers another new entrant in electric van market

Chinese automotive giant Chery is entering the electric van sphere with its new Delivan.

The group behind the Chery, Lepas, Jaecoo and Omoda brand confirmed that it was launching a commercial vehicle arm in Europe, revealing three vehicles that it says will spearhead its zero-emission Future Super Commercial Vehicle (FSCV) strategy.

At the heart of the plan is the Delivan, which is expected to compete with the Ford Transit Custom and Volkswagen Transporter and offer a customisable, scalable commercial option.

Chery says the Delivan is “designed for high-frequency, short-distance urban logistics, supporting last-mile delivery, e-commerce fulfilment and professional fleet use”. In other words it’s an urban delivery van in the vein of the Ford Transit City.

The group also says that the Delivan aims to meet European fleets’ needs and offer a modular approach allowing for different body styles, as well as providing integrated intelligent management systems.

Expected to arrive some time in 2027, the Delivan will launch in the UK ahead of other European markets, “reflecting its position as one of Europe’s most advanced and influential commercial vehicle markets”.

Alongside the Delivan, Chery showcased two smaller concepts at the Commercial Vehicle Show.

chery micro-cargo concept

The ‘micro-cargo’ concept is said to be suited to compact, multi-drop urban operations and local service fleets operating in dense city environments, while the autonomous ‘robot-cargo’ is intended for controlled environments such as warehouses, campuses, and urban delivery zones.

Technical details for all the vehicles are thin on the ground (read nonexistent) but Gong Yueqiong, general manager of Chery Commercial Vehicle, confirmed the vehicles would be electric.

He said: “Our Future Super Commercial Vehicle strategy is designed to redefine the role of commercial vehicles in a zero-carbon, intelligent era. It is not simply about products, but about establishing a new paradigm – one that integrates technology, data and ecosystem capability to create greater value for customers..”

Jolly Yang, vice president of Chery Commercial Vehicle and CEO of Delivan, added: “With Delivan, we are introducing a new generation of commercial vehicles designed specifically for European operations.”
