Electrogenic expands classic conversion kit offering

Classic car repowering specialist Electrogenic has revealed its latest EV conversion technology at the SEMA show and announced a new approach to supplying customers.

The firm, famous for its drop-in kits, will now make the individual elements available to business customers in America to help them drive innovation in the EV conversion market.

The Oxford-based operation has become well-known for its one-off conversions of models such as the Rolls-Royce Phantom II, as well as its ready-to-use kits for a variety of classic models. It currently offers drop-in kits for models as varied as classic Land Rovers, the Delorean DMC-12 and Jaguar E-Type.

As well as fitting these ‘plug-and-play’ kits itself, Electrogenic supplies them to conversion companies around the world to install in customer cars. However, for the first time, it will now offer individual components to allow them to create custom conversions.

Announcing the move, Steve Drummond, Electrogenic CEO, said: “We’ve seen demand for EV technology take off in the USA over the past couple years, with a growing number of EV companies doing some really innovative work.

“This rapid market expansion has now prompted us to offer our proprietary systems, integration software and electronics to US automotive specialists as individual items for the first time. These innovative components, the ‘secret sauce’ behind the global success of our drop-in conversion kits, will now be offered to EV specialists and manufacturers across the USA, so that they too can build the EV of their dreams.

“The US EV market is really vibrant and we have been listening to our customers, who want to be able to apply our technology to their own projects.”

The company also used its appearance at the SEMA show to announced expansion to its North American network, with the addition of Hesp Originals, based in British Columbia. Hesp – a renowned Land Rover specialist, will be the first Electrogenic partner serving the Canadian market.

Drummond said: “Hesp Originals are real experts in EV as well as Land Rovers, so I am particularly delighted that they have chosen to partner with us – it’s a true compliment for our technology, and a great opportunity for their customers.”
