Porsche confirms Macan EV delay to 2024 due to software problem

If you have been waiting for the all-electric Porsche Macan, the carmaker has confirmed the EV will be delayed until 2024.

The problem is the software development process that is slowing things down.

The confirmation comes after info leaked in July that the Macan and the Audi Q6 e-tron (built on the same platform) could be delayed by a year.

The reason given also matches; Volkswagen’s CARIAD division is falling behind in the development of the software that powers the two EVs.

Porsche substantiated the delay in its share prospectus after going public in October. It says, “The Group is currently developing, together with CARIAD and Audi, the E3 1.2 platform for deployment in the all-electric Macan BEV, which the Group plans to begin delivering in 2024. […] In part due to delays at CARIAD and the Group in developing the E3 1.2 platform, the Group has already had to delay the start of production (SOP) of the Macan BEV.”

As noted by Porsche, the delay may affect other models. However, Porsche hopes to produce equal amounts of the Macan EV and ICE versions.
