Polestar 3 SUV wins world’s largest independent winter range test

The Polestar 3 scooped top spot at the world’s largest independent range test, Norway’s El Prix, after traveling a distance of 330 miles (531 kilometres) on a single charge.

The car used was a 2024 Long Range Dual Motor model specced with the Performance Pack. The distance it recorded was just 5% shy of its 348 mile (561km) WLTP rating. Its nearest competitor, the BYD Tang was 9% short. The Polestar’s figure was the second highest in El Prix history. Overall El Prix efficiency honors remain with BMW, after an iX3 returned a distance figure just 4% short of its official figure in 2021.

The El Prix is organised twice a year by the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) and Motor magazine. Participating manufacturers measure how far cars can drive on a single charge compared to their official WLTP range.

The winter edition of the test is conducted during the Norwegian winter season, and has an ascent of around 1,000 metres. This year the route was particularly challenging due to wet and slippery road conditions, despite milder temperatures ranging from -2C to +5C.

The route started in Oslo and headed north. The start is 53 metres above sea level and the highest point is reached after 217 miles (350 km) at an altitude of 967 metres.

“Range is an important criterion for customers, and this result underlines that the Polestar 3 is a great choice for everybody seeking a luxury experience in an outstanding SUV,” said Polestar CEO, Michael Loscheller. “We are developing our cars above the Arctic Circle in Sweden, so it’s no surprise for us that the Polestar 3 performs better than the competition in challenging conditions.”

For the 2025 model year, Polestar introduced a Long Range Single Motor version of the 3 capable of returning a 438 mile (706km) range from its 111kWh battery.

Polestar is currently offering customers a seasonal discount on the Polestar 3, with Long Range Single Motor models starting at £66,900 instead of its usual £69,900.
