Genesis Electrified G80 gets more space and range with 2025 update
Genesis has updated its G80 executive saloon to bring more legroom, improved range and a new ‘chauffeur mode’ for the ultimate passenger comfort.
The premium brand will launch the updated electric version of its large four-door in its native Korea this month, with it expected to come to European and UK some time next year.
Unusually for a mid-life update, the Electrified G80 has undergone some serious structural changes to extend its wheelbase by 130mm. Most of that extra length (83mm) has been dedicated to the rear of the cabin, boosting legroom for those in the back. The new model also offers an extra 20mm of headroom – something that was lacking in early battery-powered versions of the G80.
Rear passengers also get 14-way adjustable seats with a 40-degree reclining function and ‘wing-out’ headrests so weary high-flyers can snooze in the back as they’re chauffeured around.
To emphasise its limo aspirations, Genesis has equipped the Electrified G80 with a specific chauffeur mode which adjusts – read dulls – the throttle and braking inputs and alters the suspension to avoid any ducking and diving under heavy acceleration or braking. The G80’s suspension bushings have been upgraded for better comfort and the car also features ‘road-preview’ suspension which – like Rolls-Royce – uses a camera to scan the road ahead and prepare the suspension for upcoming bumps.
The driver hasn’t been completely forgotten about, they now get a 23-inch OLED display that can be split into two three zones to cover instruments and infotainment functions. It also, worryingly, now features touch-based heating controls.
Along with more more and tech, the 2025 Electrified G80 also offers more range thanks to a larger battery. The old 87.2kWh unit has been replaced with a 94.5kWh package which Genesis says offers 295 miles on a charge. That’s under Korean EV certification standards but, given that the old car managed 323 WLTP miles, we’d expect the UK and European figure to be even better.
