Vauxhall slashes electric Corsa and Astra prices
Vauxhall has cut the price of several of its electric models by up to £4,700.
The firm says it is working to make electric cars more accessible by reducing the price of the Corsa, Astra and Astra Sports Tourer shortly after announcing cheaper special editions.
The biggest reduction is on the range-topping Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate, which now costs from £40,695 – a saving of £4,765 on the previous list price. The prices of GS and Design versions of the family estate have also dropped significantly – down by £3,905 and £3,850 to £38,440 and £36,145 respectively. The change means Design spec is now cheaper than the special Griffin edition which was launched as a more affordable option earlier this year.
The Corsa has also seen large reductions. The top-spec Ultimate has been cut by £4,150, bringing it down to £33,040 for the 50kWh version and £34,435 for the more powerful and longer-range 51kWh model. The GS trim has dropped £2,850 across standard and long range models, bringing its starting point to £31,230.
Vauxhall has also expanded the Corsa range, adding the long-range 51kWh/154bhp powertrain to the entry-level Design spec, bringing 248 miles of range from £30,440.
The Corsa Yes Edition hasn’t seen any reductions but, at £26,895 remains among the UK’s cheapest new EVs.
Reductions on the Astra Hatch are more modest but a £2,850 cut brings the Design spec to under £35,000. The GS trim has been cut by £2,905 to £37,240, while the fully-equipped Ultimate model is now £39,395 after a £3,865 reduction.
As part of its drive to make EV ownership easier, Vauxhall also recently announced that its new Frontera EV will have the same sub-£24,000 list price as the hybrid model, and has launched a number of PCP offers bringing electric models down to the same monthly payments as ICE versions.
James Taylor, Vauxhall’s managing director, said: “The new pricing structure on Corsa Electric and Astra Electric is the latest in a number of measures we have taken to democratise access to electric vehicles – including becoming the first brand in the UK to offer an electric and petrol hybrid car for the same list price with New Frontera.
Our five-year PCP offer on electric models means customers can enjoy equivalent monthly payments with petrol models over four years, while the special edition Corsa Electric YES Edition and Astra Electric Griffin make going electric even more attainable.”
