VW Group and OVO slash charging costs to 7p/kWh for fleet drivers

Volkswagen Group UK and energy provider OVO have extended their partnership to reduce electric vehicle charging costs for company car and salary sacrifice customers.

For the first time, company car and salary sacrifice motorists who select a new all-electric VW Group model from January 1, 2025 and opt for the OVO’s Charge Anytime plan will be able to charge their vehicle for 7p/kWh at any time of day or night.

The Charge Anytime package sees customers receive up to 2,000 free miles via £42.42 credit, as well as 1,000 free ‘anniversary’ miles for every year they stay on Charge Anytime.

Charge Anytime was launched in 2022 and initially only offered to private buyers. Since it began it is estimated to have saved its users over £10 million. The system is powered by Kaluza’s smart software, and automatically enables charging when carbon emissions and prices are at their lowest.

The extended tie-up between VW Group and OVO now includes business and fleet customers and will also see both parties encourage UK drivers to make the transition to electric motoring with the OVO Beyond scheme.

Self-described as “the UK’s first ‘Energy Savings Account’”, OVO Beyond rewards its existing customers planning to make the switch to EV by allowing them to ‘bank’ an extra 50 miles on top of the 100 EV miles per-month allowance if they then go on to buy a new VW group EV.

The new deal is applicable across all mainstream VW Group brands, including Volkswagen passenger car and commercial, Audi, Cupra, Seat and Skoda.

VW Group UK’s head of group fleet and insight operations, Iker Lazzari, said: “I’m really pleased we’re now able to offer fleet drivers the same convenient ‘EV package’ as retail buyers by extending the OVO energy partnership agreement to cover company car and salary sacrifice customers.

“Free miles, anniversary bonuses and access to one single energy cost are new and simple ways in which we can show our commitment to electrification and, importantly, to making the switch to EV both easy and enjoyable.”

OVO’s director of EVs, Alex Thwaites, added: “Together with Volkswagen Group we are rewarding customers for making the switch to an EV. We look forward to extending our market-leading Charge Anytime to fleet drivers and helping more people on their decarbonisation journey, all while cutting costs.”

Alongside Volkswagen, the VW Group owns Audi, Škoda, SEAT, and Cupra.
