Swarco launches new business arm to tackle future EV charging needs

Swarco has launched a new business to address the future of EV charging needs within local authorities, the public transport sector and commercial fleets.

The global traffic technology firm has launched Swarco Smart Charging to replace its existing eVolt brand which will be phased out 11 years. The new arm of the business also comes with substantial new investment in people and technology from its parent company.

Swarco Smart Charging will provide software and hardware charging solutions direct to market. It will also partner with businesses and local authorities that build, own and operate charging points, who need the support of a reliable third-party technology and associated maintenance and support services.

Justin Meyer, managing director of Swarco Smart Charging, chose the 11th anniversary of its original eVolt brand as an opportunity to begin a new era in the company’s development.

He said: “In some ways nothing has changed, as our customers will still be working with the same teams and same technology they have come to know and trust under the eVolt brand. The business has many thousands of smart charging points installed across the UK, on the public highway and in bespoke hubs, business premises and private homes, charging everything from private vehicles and commercial fleets through to buses and trucks.

Swarco has also been involved in creating dedicated e-bus charging facilities, with intelligent software that manages the distribution of charge for maximum efficiency and cost in the context of energy availability.
