Polestar 4 introduces “groundbreaking” Google Maps live lane guidance system

A new AI-driven live lane guidance system from Google Maps has made its public debut on the all-electric Polestar 4.

The Geely-owned Swedish performance brand is the first manufacturer to integrate the live lane guidance system into the instrument screen of one of its vehicles. Shown on the Polestar 4’s 10.2-inch driver display, the system’s Google advanced AI detects which lane the car is in, and uses the car’s front-facing cameras to detect lane markings and road signs.

This latest innovation from Google built-in is paired with Google Maps, and delivers audio and visual reminders to help drivers change lane in time.

After the rollout of the Polestar 4’s new Google Maps features, Sid Odedra, Polestar’s head of UI and UX at Polestar said: “Over the past five years, Polestar’s collaboration with Google has delivered many new features for Polestar owners.

“Live lane guidance continues the path of Polestar’s driver centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety by making missed exits and last-minute lane changes much less of a worry.”

Andrew Foster, the director of product management for Google Maps described the new system as “groundbreaking.”

“Polestar has been a close partner since 2020 when Polestar 2 launched as the first car with Google built-in,” he said. “Now, Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance which will help people drive with even more confidence and set a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry.”

Polestar has yet to confirm whether it will introduce its AI-driven live lane guidance to its Polestar 2, Polestar 3, and Polestar 5 models.

In September 2025, Polestar was the United Kingdom’s fastest-growing premium EV brand after shifting 2,758 cars nationwide. Its success hasn’t just been restricted to the UK.

During the first nine months of this year, it sold a total of 44,482 units globally – a 36% increase from 2024. Following the launch of the Polestar 5 earlier this year, its next model will be the Volvo EX60-based Polestar 7, which is set to arrive in 2028.
