2026 MG4 brings range and power boost as it moves upmarket

MG has confirmed new pricing and technical details for its MG4 hatchback ahead of the facelift model’s UK launch.

Set to go on sale in February, the 2026 MG4 brings more power and range than before, with prices starting at £29,995.

While that is more expensive than the previous starting price, MG has dropped the old entry-level model with its 49kWh battery, making the new Premium Long Range the starting point and representing a £2,750 reduction from the outgoing model.

The reason for the shift in specifications is to create space between the Volkswagen ID.3-rivalling MG4 and the newly announced MG4 Urban, which sits beneath it as MG’s cheapest electric model.

The 2026 MG4 now comes with a 64kWh battery in entry-level Long Range models, promising up to 280 miles of range. Above that, the Extended Range is priced from £32,995 and gets an upgraded 77kWh battery capable of returning 338 miles on a single charge.

For 2026 MG has retained the slightly unhinged MG4 XPOWER, promising 429bhp and all-wheel-drive for just £33,995.

The updated model also brings tech upgrades, according to MG. It hasn’t shared full details, but it is understood that the 2026 MG4 gets a new interior with more practical centre console, more physical controls and new driver information and infotainment screens. The updated infotainment setup is likely to be the same 12.8-inch screen used in the MGS6 SUV, promising a major improvement over the previous MG4’s disappointing system.

MG has also said the new model will bring a step up in quality – something else that will be most welcome.

David Allison, MG UK’s director of product and planning, said: “Since its launch in 2022 the MG4 EV has been one of the UK’s most popular and admired electric cars [and has] helped make EV ownership possible for the many rather than the few.

“Now the 2026 MG4 EV offers a major technology and quality upgrade to the interior, and a sharp focus on excellent all-electric driving range. And in the case of the Dual Motor XPOWER, some scintillating performance.”
