MG4 Urban price and powertrain confirmed
The new MG4 Urban will go on sale in the coming weeks as one of the UK’s cheapest new EVs.
The new addition to MG’s expanding EV range will sit below the “regular” MG4 hatchback and act as an entry-level rival to the likes of the Renault 5, Citroen E-C3 and BYD Dolphin Surf as well as incoming models such as the Nio Firefly.
Prices for the MG4 Urban will start at £23,495 for the Comfort Standard Range and rise to £27,995 for the Premium Long Range.
Despite carrying the MG4 name, the MG4 Urban is a completely new vehicle built on an entirely different platform from the existing MG4. Unlike the more expensive model, the MG4 Urban is front-wheel drive and has a softer design inspired by the Cyberster sports car.
The entry-level Standard Range car uses a 43kWh battery for a range of up to 201 miles, paired with a 147bhp motor. The Long Range model gets a 54kWh pack capable of returning 258 miles per charge and a motor upgrade to a 158bhp unit.
To create clear space between the two models, MG has dropped the previous entry-level versions of the MG4 and will only offer the updated hatchback in Premium Long Range, Premium Extended Range and XPower variants.
David Allison, MG UK’s director of product and planning, commented: “The all-new MG4 EV Urban reconfirms our brand’s ability to make EV ownership ever-more accessible, offering a family sized electric available from just £23,495.”
Confirming the car’s impending arrival, MG described it as a new B-segment hatchback “designed specifically as an electric vehicle for towns and cities”. It also claimed the MG4 Urban will offer class-leading space.
Confusingly, while MG calls the MG4 Urban a city-ready B-segment car, the Chinese model on which it appears to be based is 4.4m long – 40cm bigger than the Renault 5 and 10cm longer than the current MG4.

The MG4 Urban was one of two new EVs hinted at by the brand in late 2025, when it revealed its product strategy. Alongside the Urban, MG confirmed another brand-new model will arrive later in the year, positioned between the MG4 and the MGS5 SUV.
Orders for the new MG4 Urban as well as the updated MG4 will open in February.
