Cupra has introduced a new base-spec model to its all-electric Tavascan SUV range called Origin, starting from £39,995.

Origin is the fifth trim level in the Tavascan line-up, and sits behind the V1, V2, VZ, and VZ Extreme models.

The Origin retains the same bold design language as all other Tavascans, and equipment includes five-spoke, two-tone ‘Vulcano’ alloy wheels, heated front seats, plus the range-wide, standard-fit 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and 15-inch infotainment display running Google built-in.

The Cupra Tavascan Origin also introduces a new 58kWh battery along with a new rear-mounted 187bhp electric motor. With a WLTP range of 273 miles, the same powertrain can be configured with V1 and V2 models, and can cover the 0-62mph run in 8.6 seconds.

The 58kWh pack sits alongside the existing 77kWh battery, which can be paired with either a 282bhp or a 335bhp electric motor. The smaller of the two has a maximum charging speed of 105kW, making for a 10-80% top-up time of 26 minutes. All versions of the Tavascan ride on parent company Volkswagen’s MEB platform, which was developed exclusively for electric-only models.

The addition of the Origin trim level and the new battery aren’t the only changes the Spanish manufacturer has made to the Tavascan range. All grades from V1 upward come with a smartphone ‘Digital Key unlocking feature, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.

V2 cars and above come fitted with a Sennheiser Contrabass sound system, while the performance-focused VZ models come with a launch control function.

Cupra has adjusted the pricing structure of the Tavascan, too. The 282bhp V1 has been discounted to bring the starting price down to £45,740, while VZ and VZ Extreme models have been cut by £1,005. This means they now start from £54,930 and £59,830 respectively.
