Kia has shared the first images of its new PV7 electric van ahead of the vehicle’s unveiling later this month.
The PV7 is set to make its global debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover on September 14 as Kia’s second all-electric commercial vehicle. It will sit above the existing PV5 and arrives ahead of the larger PV9, which is due for launch in 2027.
Kia has yet to confirm exact dimensions, payloads or body configurations for the PV7 but it is expected to sit closer to mid-sized vans such as the Ford E-Transit Custom, Volkswagen Transporter and Renault Trafic than the ID. Buzz-rivalling PV5.
The teaser images show the PV7 in a variety of commercial applications and suggest its design will stick closely to the concept seen two years ago and the look of the PV5.
Like the PV5, the PV7 has a short upright front end featuring a gloss black ‘visor’ and A-pillars that stand out in contrast to the body colour. It also features a similar black and silver lower grille area and black body cladding around the wheel arches, and similar slimline vertical lights to the PV5.
Powertrain details are still under wraps but we know that the PV7 is based on the same E-GMP.S platform as the PV5. That model comes in a 51.5kWh variant with a 120bhp motor and 184-mile range or a 71.2kWh long-range version with a 160bhp motor and 258-mile range. However, with the longer wheelbase of the PV7, Kia could potentially fit a larger battery to offer increased range.
The E-Transit Custom uses a 71kWh battery for 228 miles of range, while the soon-to-launch Renault Trafic offers up to 279 from an 81kWh unit.
Alongside the new PV7, Kia will showcase the latest versions of the smaller PV5, including a seven-seat passenger variant, L2/H2 and L1/H1 versions of the Cargo van, its wheelchair accessible vehicle and a PV5 Food Truck.
