Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier and ‘flying car’ set for arrival in 2026

Chinese car manufacturer Xpeng has said that its radical, six-wheeled AeroHT Land Aircraft Carrier – along with its built-in modular flying car – is set for delivery in 2026.

The Land Aircraft Carrier and its accompanying compact eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft were recently shown at CES 2025.

The ‘Mothership’ vehicle combines style elements of XPeng’s X9 MPV and the Tesla Cybertruck. Its manufacturer, Xpeng AeroHT, a subsidiary of UK-bound Chinese electric car maker Xpeng Motors, has said that the car is Cybertruck-rivaling 5.5-metres long and two-metres tall.

Xpeng says that it has already received over 3000 ‘intent orders’.

Xpeng AeroHT co-founder and chief designer Wang Tan told Autocar that the Land Aircraft Carrier will “appeal to multiple customer types”.

“There are people who like to go off-road, and this vehicle has a six-wheel set-up and a differential lock that gives it real off-road ability,” he said. “It will also offer another dimension to people who fly. I’m a pilot, and every time I want to fly, I need to go to the airport, and if I have my own helicopter, I might need a trailer. It makes it all very difficult, but with this, I can take my eVTOL anywhere.”

The aircraft folds up and can be automatically loaded into and unloaded from the rear of the truck. It’s a six-rotor design with a two-seat cockpit that makes extensive use of carbonfibre to save weight.

Tan explained that the shape of the aircraft was largely determined by the dimensions of the truck.

“We had to follow the function,” he said. “We needed it to make it compact when folded so there was room for passengers in the truck, and there were limits to the size of the truck so it could fit on the road.”

At present, it takes around four minutes for the aircraft to unfold from the truck, but Xpeng is aiming for a three-minute benchmark.

The Xpeng AeroHT Land Aircraft Carrier will use a range-extender EV powertrain to give it a combined range in excess of 620 miles on the Chinese test cycle. The initial 2026 deliveries will be made in China, where it is further along in securing the necessary approvals from road and air authorities than in other countries.

When it arrives, the vehicle is set to cost under $300,000.
