Swede dreams are made of these: Volvo launches EX30 Cargo minivan

Volvo UK has launched its all-electric Volvo EX30 Cargo minivan with up to 422bhp on tap and 1,000 litres of load capacity.

Developed by Volvo UK’s arm for business fleets, the Scandi-cool EX30 Cargo is its first commercial vehicle. Order books are now open with prices starting from £36,010. Unlike Volvo’s range of passenger cars, the EX30 is available solely via Volvo UK’s fleet sales channel.

The EX30 Cargo is visually similar to Volvo’s fashionable crossover, which arrived in 2023. Yet by removing the rear seats, the EX30 Cargo has an enlarged boot with 1,000 litres of space and a maximum payload capacity of 390 kilograms. IKEA run, anyone?

The rear doors open wider than those on the standard EX30, and there’s a metal grate between the front seats and load area to protect the driver and passenger from any errant packages that may find their way into the cabin. Volvo, for better or worse, has resisted the urge to go full on tradey by replacing the EX30’s rear windows with panels. However, the rear windows are blacked out for security reasons.

As per the regular Volvo EX30, the Cargo comes in two trim levels – Core and Plus – and is available in both trendy standard and ruff ‘n ready Cross Country guise.

Core models are generously equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and Volvo’s Google-based operating system. Further toys include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, and a heat pump to eke out those precious extra delivery miles during the colder months.

Step up to Plus trim, and the Volvo EX30 Cargo gets heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control. Extra standard kit comprises wireless phone charging, a Harman Kardon sound system, two-tone paint, and larger 19-inch alloys.

Volvo offers the EX30 Cargo with two battery options: 51 kWh or 69kWh. The smaller unit should provide a range of around 214 miles (as per the passenger version) and is available with either 152bhp or 268bhp. The smaller of the two will be available for the 2027 model year.

The larger pack is reported to return over 300 miles on a single charge. It can be specced with a single rear-mounted 268bhp motor, or a range-topping twin-motor ‘T8’ powertrain producing 422bhp and a supercar-worrying 0-62mph time of just 3.6 seconds.
