Volvo launches new entry-level EX30

Volvo is expanding its EX30 line-up for 2026 with a new entry-level model, more Cross Country variants and an improved user interface.

The Swedish brand said the updates would bring “big improvements” to its compact electric SUV, making it easier to use and adding practical functionality such as vehicle-to-load capability.

The biggest addition is a new lower-powered model to sit at the bottom of the range. The entry-level EX30 uses a 148bhp motor paired with a 51kWh battery for up to 211 miles of range. Previously, the most basic EX30 used a 268bhp rear-mounted motor and the same 51kWh battery for up to 209 miles of range.

The new motor will also be available with a 69kWh battery, which boosts its range to 296 miles.

Volvo hasn’t confirmed a UK launch or price for the new base model but if it does come here it should bring a significant price cut for the EX30, which currently starts at £33,060.

The more rugged EX30 Cross Country is also getting the option of a single-motor variant for the first time. Volvo hasn’t confirmed the specification yet but this is likely to be the same 268bhp option featured in other variants. An additional Plus trim level is also being added to beneath the Ultra spec, which is currently the only option. Both updates should mean more affordable versions of the Cross Country, which starts at around £47,000.

Elsewhere in the range, two new interior packages have been added. The ‘Harvest’ interior is inspired by late Scandinavian summer evenings and includes light-coloured woven upholstery and subtly contrasting Nordico upholstery, both made from recycled materials. The ‘Black’ interior, does what its name suggests, and uses a deep-black Nordico upholstery and natural, dark flax trim.

Alongside power and trim updates the EX30s’ user interface is getting a much-needed overhaul. Volvo says the screen-based UX has been completely redesigned to improve access to key controls that matter to drivers. It has also added a customizable content bar for personalised shortcuts.

In addition, bidirectional charging has been added to allow vehicle-to-load powering of other devices – from power tools to camping kit.

The addition of V2L and the new UX are planned to be provided through over-the-air software updates during summer to new and existing EX30 customers.

Volvo recently confirmed it was recalling 44,000 EX30s fitted with the larger battery after discovering a battery fault that poses a fire risk.
