Volkswagen e-Tranporter Sportline gets GTI-inspired bodykit and 286bhp

The new Volkswagen e-Transporter is the latest all-electric van to get the sporty treatment, courtesy of its new, range-topping Sportline edition.

This latest version of the Transporter gets the signature “dogbone-style” GTI bumper intakes, plus gloss black trim around the grille with a red stripe running lengthwise.

The Volkswagen e-Transporter Sportline rides on 19-inch, diamond-cut alloys, with Eibach springs lowering the ride height by 29 millimetres. At the back, the aggressive aesthetic is enhanced by a pronounced rear bumper, red/grey ‘e-Transporter’ lettering, and a split roof spoiler.

Inside, the Sportline’s racy theme continues with vegan leather upholstery trimmed with red stitching, along with a smattering of Sportline logos dotted around the cabin.

Metal scuff plates are also standard, along with a rear-view camera, illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirrors, a heated leather steering wheel, and full carpet flooring on five-seater Kombi models. Both Kombi and panel van models are offered in short- and long-wheelbase (SWB and LWB).

Despite the visual upgrades, the e-Transporter’s powertrain options remain unchanged, with a front-mounted 282bhp electric motor as the only choice here. Recently updated, this seventh-generation Transporter gets a 70kWh battery producing 236 miles of range.

The VW e-Transporter Sportline is priced from £62,752 for the short-wheelbase panel van, and from £66,928 for the flagship SWB 75 Special Edition Kombi.

Orderbooks for all VW Transporter Sportline models will begin in April this year, ahead of deliveries the following month. All-electric rivals include the Peugeot E-Expert Sport, which takes inspiration from the French firm’s participation in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the Citroen VTR e-Dispatch.

The Peugeot is priced from £51,845 in three-seat panel van guise, and £54,545 as a five-seat crew van. Meanwhile, Citroen says that the former version of the e-Dispatch has a £46,845 pricetag, with the latter costing £49,545 after the UK Government’s Plug-in Vehicle Grant has been applied.
