Updated VW ID 4 and ID 5 now get physical buttons and V2L functionality

Volkswagen has introduced a series of upgrades to its ID 4 SUV and ID 5 SUV coupé, including physical steering wheel buttons, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, and improved battery options.

Updated VW ID 4 range, pricing, and power

The entry-level ID 4 Pure models see their net battery capacity upgraded from 52kWh to 58kWh, and power boosted from 168bhp to 187bhp. Meanwhile, the range is increased from 222 miles to 265. The starting price for the Pure models remains unchanged at £36,995.

Now priced from £37,565, mid-tier Pro versions of the ID 4 see their 77kWh battery upgraded to 79kWh. Despite the changes, power output remains the same at 282bhp, and range is also unchanged at 347 miles. Performance and technical figures remain the same for the now-priced £47,570 ID 4 Black Edition.

Updated VW ID 4 Black Edition

The all-wheel drive (AWD) Pro Match 4Motion and Pro Black Edition 4Motion models retain their 77kWh battery, but power jumps from 282bhp to 294bhp. Range also improves to 341 miles. Both cars now come with a £570 premium, meaning the former starts from £47,510 and the latter from £49,530.

The range-topping ID 4 GTX 4Motion’s pokey 335bhp power output remains unchanged, but it’s now capable of 336 miles on a single charge from its 77kWh battery – four more than before the updates were introduced. This flagship ID 4 now costs £665 more than before, thanks to a £53,565 starting price.

Updated VW ID 5 range, pricing, and power

The story is largely the same for the ID 5. Pricing for entry-level Pure Match cars stays at £36,995, while battery capacity expands from 52kWh to 58kWh. Power increases to 187bhp, and VW has increased the range from 227 to 272 miles.

Updated VW ID 5

Like the ID 4, the power output of Pro trim ID 5s remains at 282bhp, and range now stands at 351 miles – seven more than the outgoing car. Those extra miles mean that prices now start at £37,565. Black Edition cars return the same figures, but come with a £49,040 starting price.

The range-topping ID 5 GTX 4Motion still packs the same 335bhp as its ID 4 sibling, but range and pricing now stand at 331 miles and £55,055 respectively.

Other changes

Further key changes to the updated VW ID 4 and updated ID 5 include the option of a more efficient heat pump and an increased trailer load limit of 1,800kg on 4Motion models.

The updated VW ID 4 and ID 5 in Pure Essential trim now also come with 19-inch steel wheels, while Pure Match cars are fitted with an electric tailgate as standard. A 230V power socket is also available as an option across both models.
