Stealthy new Volvo EX30 Black Edition priced from £40,060

Volvo has introduced a new Black Edition trim level for its award-winning, all-electric EX30 crossover.

The Volvo EX30 Black Edition is priced from £40,060 in entry-level Single Motor Plus guise, with the Dual Motor Performance model commanding a £2,800 premium.

Step up to the range-topping Ultra car, and single-motor versions come with a £43,860 pricetag, while twin-motor performance models start at £48,860. Irrespective of powertrain, the Volvo EX30 Black Edition is available in just one exterior colour – trim-exclusive Onyx Black.

This is paired with Volvo’s front badging, which is finished in high gloss black, as is the rear ‘Volvo’ script, ‘EX30’ name plate, and the colour-coordinated roof spoiler and door mirrors.

Plus trim cars come equipped with advanced sensing technology, adaptive cruise control, and an electronically assisted boot as standard. The Ultra version builds on this, adding a panoramic sunroof, park pilot assist, and a 360-degree parking camera.

Both Black Edition models come with a heat pump as standard, helping drivers maximise the 276bhp Single Motor’s 295-mile range in colder weather. With 434bhp on tap, Dual Motor Performance range is reduced to 279 miles.

Mirroring the exterior, EX30 Black Edition’s cabin gets one interior option – Indigo. The deep blue interior gets an exclusive upcycled denim upholstery, described by Volvo as “studio-inspired”.

The EX30 is the third Volvo EV to get the Black Edition trim, along with the EX40 and EC40. It is expected that the flagship EX90 and upcoming EX60 will also get it to mirror their internal combustion-engined counterparts, the XC90 and EX60.

Unlike earlier versions of the EX30, Black Edition models will be built in Europe as Volvo seeks to meet increasing EV demand and reduce logistical reliance on China.

Other non-standard EX30 editions include the outdoorsy EX30 Cross Country, which comes with an increased ride height, larger wheels, and chunky plastic body cladding inspired by the much-loved Volvo XC70 from the Swedish manufacturer’s back catalogue.
