MG to unveil two new EVs alongside Cyber X at Goodwood

MG plans to reveal two “new, technologically advanced” electric cars at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, including a new high-performance model.

The budget-focused brand has big plans for this year’s FoS, with its Cyber X SUV and a new Cyberster Black also set to make their European debuts over the weekend.

MG is keeping details of the new models under wraps until the event on July 10-13 but has said they are concepts intended to showcase its ambitions and “continuing sense of adventure and design capabilities”.

It has also indicated that one of the models will unleash “phenomenal” acceleration in a run up the world-famous Goodwood hill, suggesting a partner to the high-performance Cyberster roadster. It’s not clear yet whether this is an entirely new model or a dynamic debut for the hard-top Cyberster GTS which the brand confirmed for production earlier this year.

Also running up the hill this year will be the 429bhp MG4 XPower finished in a special livery paying tribute to the iconic MG Metro 6R4.

Alongside the MG4 XPower and two new concepts, the MG Cyber X concept will go on display for the first time in Europe. This compact electric SUV brings a radical new design direction for the brand, with a rugged 4×4 look. Despite its tough exterior appearance, MG says the Cyber X is a “youthful” car designed for urban exploration, putting it in the B-SUV segment.

MG’s vice president of design Josef Kaban commented: “We’re looking forward to introducing the original Cyber X and elegant Cyberster Black. MG has a tradition of creating emotive cars that stand-out from the crowd and we’re passionate about continuing this work as well as exploring how we might take the brand in some new, unexpected directions.”

The Cyberster Black introduces a new “luxurious” deep black paint finish, all-black interior and contrasting chrome trim to the powerful two-seater.

Founder of the Festival of Speed, the Duke of Richmond, commented: “After officially celebrating their centenary with us in some style last year, MG will return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed with two important, new production models as well some outstanding concept cars which we’re excited to be hosting.

“The opportunity to catch a first glimpse of captivating future design and technical innovation is a key part of the Goodwood experience and MG has so much to offer this year.”
