Kia EV4 gets £3,750 price cut thanks to new EV grant approval
The Kia EV4 has become the first car from the Korean brand to qualify for the full band 1 Electric Car Grant (ECG).
The pure-electric hatchback is now eligible for a £3,750 reduction across three core variants, having previously secured approval for the lower band 2 grant.
The change means the EV4 hatchback now starts at £30,995 including the grant. This sees it now undercuts the EV3 SUV and places it as the second-cheapest EV in Kia’s expanding line-up.
For just under £31k, buyers can opt for the EV4 Air with the smaller 58.3kWh battery. That’s still enough to get the family hatchback 273 miles on a charge. However, for an extra £2,250, the Air can be specified with the 388-mile 81.4kWh battery.
Every Air model gets 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, flush-fit door handles, heated front seats and steering wheel, a three-screen dashboard and two-zone air conditioning.

Above the Air trim, the EV4 Motion with the 81.4kWh battery also qualifies for the grant, with a post-discount price of £36,745. Motion sits between the GT-Line and GT-Line S trims and adds faux-leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a Harman Kardon stereo and surround view camera.
GT-Line and GT-Line S variants of the EV4 still don’t qualify for any ECG.
Four Kia models now qualify for some level of ECG. While EV4 is the first to get the larger discount, the EV2, EV3 and PV5 Passenger are all also eligible for the £1,500 band 2 reduction.
Kia says that it expects long-range versions of the EV2, fitted with a 61kWh battery, to qualify for the full band 1 discount when they go on sale later this year.
The level of ECG discount is based on a series of “Science Based Targets” related to the sustainability of production. Cars with lower environmental impact in their manufacture qualify for a larger grant and the EV4 is the first from a Far Eastern brand to secure the top tier, although it is built at Kia’s European plant in Slovakia.
More than 40 models now qualify for some level of ECG, including key models from Renault, Skoda, Peugeot and Ford.
