Kia Achieves Milestone with 1.5 Millionth Car Sold in the UK

Kia celebrated a significant milestone in April as it reached its 1.5 millionth car sale in the UK. This achievement comes during a record-breaking month for the brand, fueled by the popularity of its eco-friendly vehicles.

The landmark sale occurred with the purchase of a Kia EV6 ‘GT-Line S’ in Yacht Blue at Norton Way GWR Kia in Brentford, London. From its debut with the Pride 33 years ago to the cutting-edge EV6 today, Kia has evolved significantly, embracing fully electric powertrains and innovative design.

The pace of Kia’s growth is evident, with the brand achieving its first 500,000 sales in 22 years, followed by the milestone of 1 million sales just six years later in 2019.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, attributed this success to the efforts of dealer partners and the brand’s acclaimed lineup of electrified vehicles. He expressed confidence in continued growth, promising further customer-centric products and services in the future.

In April, Kia recorded 8,044 sales, securing a market share of 6.0%, positioning the brand as the fifth best-selling brand of the month and fourth for the year.

Notably, Kia’s eco-friendly cars played a significant role in this success, with record-breaking sales of fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid vehicles. Hybrid and plug-in car sales reached new heights in April, contributing to 50% of Kia’s overall sales.

The Sportage and Niro Compact SUVs, along with the Picanto City Car, were among Kia’s best-sellers in April. The Sportage ranked sixth in the overall UK market and third year-to-date, while the Niro, available with various powertrains, maintained its popularity. The Picanto remained the best-selling car in its class, reinforcing Kia’s appeal in the A-segment City Car category.

April’s strong performance follows Kia’s best quarter sales on record, underscoring the ongoing momentum and demand for Kia’s diverse model lineup.
