Jaguar has given a first look at the interior to its radical new Type 01 EV ahead of the car’s global debut this October.

The four-seat grand tourer marks a complete departure for the brand and its new interior brings a completely new look focused on high-end materials and hidden-until-needed technology.

Clearly drawing on the opinion-splitting cabin of the Type 00 concept, the Type 01’s interior maintains strong horizontal lines running the length and breadth of the car, but introduces a number of practical features.

The most striking element is the central spine which runs the length of the cabin and creates four distinct seating spaces. This “architectural statement” is intended to echo the long, low profile of the car’s exterior. It is topped with “brass-inspired” trim which is carried over to the door tops and features the Jaguar leaper logo.

A slimline portrait touchscreen sits at the front of the spine, standing out from the main dashboard. The dash itself is split horizontally into two distinct sections picked out in different colours. A brass detail line also marks a clear separation between the passenger side and a huge digital driver display.

Notably, at the bottom edge of the windscreen is a smaller digital screen that will act as a display for the digital rear-view camera, strong hinting that the Jaguar Type 01 will do without a rear windscreen – in the style of the Polestar 4.

Jaguar says that the Type 01 features a wealth of technology hidden until it is needed, along with concealed storage compartments, in order to preserve the car’s clear lines.

The new car’s interior is described by the marque as “a manifestation of Jaguar’s exuberant modernist creative philosophy”, with materials inspired by travertine stone and artisan textiles.

The Type 01 marks an entirely new chapter for Jaguar, which is repositioning itself to challenge the likes of Bentley and Aston Martin in the exclusive luxury sector.

Having killed off its entire existing product range, the famous British marque is gambling on a shift upmarket with a trio of new all-electric models based on the Type 01’s platform.

The Type 01 will make its global debut at a special event in New York on October 6, but Jaguar has already confirmed that it will use a three-motor setup to deliver almost 1,000bhp.

Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, said: “Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to follow our new creative philosophy. Unmistakable from every angle, the interior is no different. With Type 01, we wanted every journey to be an occasion, from how it drives to how it looks and how it makes you feel. With a confidence‑inspiring GT driving position, clean and sophisticated technology and dramatic styling, Type 01 has an interior like no other.”
