Instavolt powers ahead in European expansion with first ultra-rapid EV chargers in Ireland
InstaVolt, the UK’s leading ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has switched on its first Irish charging site, signalling a strategic step forward in its European expansion ambitions.
The two new 160kW chargers at a McDonald’s in Dublin underscore InstaVolt’s intent to grow beyond British shores, as it eyes a network of over 16,000 chargers across the continent by the end of the decade.
This milestone arrives at a time of surging EV adoption, with one in four cars sold in the UK last month being electric and Ireland’s own EV market gaining momentum. With drivers increasingly seeking fast, reliable charging infrastructure, InstaVolt’s move into the Republic of Ireland points to a rapidly evolving landscape of demand – and an opportunity for the company to emerge as Europe’s largest ultra-rapid charging operator.
Central to InstaVolt’s proposition is its emphasis on user experience and sustainability. The newly installed chargers can deliver an 80% charge in under 20 minutes and run on 100% renewable energy, reflecting the company’s eco-focused ethos. Its ‘tap and charge’ model ensures drivers have a hassle-free experience, a feature that has already attracted a loyal customer base in the UK.
InstaVolt’s European ambitions have been bolstered by its partnerships with premium brands eager to incorporate EV charging into their customer offering. Its collaboration with McDonald’s illustrates this synergy. Beyond the Dublin site, additional chargers are set for McDonald’s locations in Newbridge, Letterkenny, and Maynooth by early 2025, extending InstaVolt’s footprint across key Irish regions.
Simon Smith, InstaVolt’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are delighted to bring InstaVolt’s ultra-rapid chargers to Dublin, marking an exciting milestone in our journey to expand across Europe. Working with premium partners like McDonald’s allows us to deliver world-class charging solutions while supporting drivers in making the switch to electric vehicles.”
Jimmy Edwards, the owner and operator of the Tallaght McDonald’s restaurants, echoed the sentiment: “I’m thrilled to introduce InstaVolt’s rapid charging point at our Belgard Road restaurant. This is an exciting step forward in our commitments to sustainability and improving our customer experience.”
As European governments push greener transport initiatives and impose stricter emissions regulations, the race to provide robust EV charging networks intensifies. With its first Irish site now operational and more on the way, InstaVolt looks set to capitalise on rising demand, driving both business growth and Europe’s accelerating transition to sustainable mobility.
