Honda’s cute new Super-N EV is coming to the UK next year

Honda has given more details about its next electric car with the unveiling of the Super-N prototype.

The new compact EV has gone on display at the Tokyo Mobility Show promising a city-friendly footprint and driver engagement through agile handling and a synthesis gear shift.

The Super-N is the latest development of the Super EV Concept shown at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. A production version has already been confirmed and UK sales are expected to start in late 2026, following the model’s launch in its native Japan.

The rest of Europe, however, won’t be getting it – possibly due to the expense of converting it to left-hand drive.

Honda says the Super-N is based on its smallest, lightest platform, taken from the N Series Kei car. That means when it arrives, the Super-N will be one of Britain’s smallest cars. To comply with Japan’s strict Kei car regulations, it must be less than 3.4m long and less than 1.48m wide.

No powertrain details are available but the Super-N is based on the Japanese market N-One e, which uses a 63bhp motor and 29.3kWh battery.

Unlike that model, Honda says the Super-N will feature a Boost mode to unlock additional power and come with virtual multi-gear shift control and active sound control. This is likely to work in a similar way to the “e-shift” function in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

Although based on the N-One, the Honda Super-N gets a wider stance, “blister” bumpers and large aero ducts, giving it a far more confident and substantial look than the gawky N-One.

Inside, there’s an airy-looking cabin populated with some familiar Honda switchgear and – thank the heavens – proper buttons for all the main controls.

Rebecca Adamson, head of automobile at Honda UK, said: “The Super-N Prototype promises to offer a great entry point to Honda EV ownership when it arrives in our market next year, building on the excitement we saw for the concept model at Goodwood this summer. By bringing Honda’s trademark ‘fun-to-drive’ performance to a compact all-electric model, we believe this is a unique proposition and we are excited for people to experience it from 2026.”

There’s no indication of pricing for the Super-N but it is expected to face off against incoming compact models such as the Renault Twingo and Volkswagen ID.1, which are targeting a sub-£17,000 mark.
