Formula E’s next-generation GEN4 race car has made its UK public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with British driver Dan Ticktum blasting the 815hp machine up the 1.16-mile hill in front of an estimated quarter of a million spectators.

The GEN4 is the fastest and most powerful car in the championship’s 12-year history. It will top 208mph (335kph), hit 0-62mph in around 1.8 seconds and 0-124mph in just 4.4 seconds, and produces up to 600kW in ATTACK MODE. It is also the only single-seater race car with permanent all-wheel drive.

Ticktum, who races for CUPRA Kiro in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, ran the car over four days at the West Sussex event, where Formula E appeared as an official partner of the Festival of Speed for the first time.

“The power, the grip from the all-wheel drive and the acceleration are on another level,” said Ticktum. “Without a doubt this is a huge step forward for Formula E, everyone got an exciting glimpse of what’s to come when it starts racing later this year.”

There was a technological twist to the runs, too. Ticktum’s car carried an experimental hybrid AI system developed with Google Cloud, which processed live telemetry, video and audio entirely on a Google Pixel 10 Pro to deliver split-second driver coaching from the device itself.

Goodwood also hosted a piece of championship history, with the GEN1, GEN2, GEN3 and GEN4 cars displayed together for the first time. Jaguar TCS Racing, DS Automobiles and Mahindra Racing all took part, charting more than a decade of progress in electric motorsport.

Recyclable racer

Beyond the headline numbers, the GEN4 is designed to be the world’s first racing car that is 100 per cent recyclable or reusable. At least 20 per cent of its key components are made from recycled materials, while its tyres use 65 per cent renewable and recycled content.

Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds called the car “the biggest performance leap in Formula E’s history”, adding: “The GEN4 demonstrates not only the future of electric racing performance, but also our continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability in motorsport.”

The Goodwood appearance follows the car’s global reveal at Circuit Paul Ricard in April and a showing at the Monaco E-Prix. Pre-season testing takes place in Madrid in November before the GEN4 makes its competitive debut in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 18-19 December, the opening round of the 2026/27 season.

British fans will not have to wait long to see it race on home soil either. The GEN4 era brings new sprint races under the E-Prix Unleashed format and a London E-Prix relocated to Brands Hatch as the championship’s bigger, faster car outgrows the ExCeL circuit.
