Fiat 500e now one of UK’s cheapest EVs after £3,200 price cut

Fiat has announced a dramatic price cut on the 500e, making it one of the cheapest EVs on sale in the UK.

The Italian brand has knocked £3,200 off the list price of its retro city car and is also continuing to offer its own in-house EV grant worth £3,000, bringing the starting price of the 500e down to £21,995.

That brings it in line with the incoming Citroen E-C3 and, apart from the £15,000 Dacia Spring, makes it the cheapest electric car currently on sale.

The sub-£22,000 price is for the entry level car with the smaller 24kWh battery and less powerful 89bhp motor. That offers a maximum range of 118 miles. The 42kWh model, which offers up to 199 miles of range and an enhanced 118bhp motor, starts at £24,995, significantly undercutting its closest rival, the Mini Cooper E.

Both battery/motor options are available in the hard-top and convertible body styles, and above the basic 500e trim, there are the design-led Red and more expensive La Prima grades. Entry level cars get 16-inch alloys and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while La Prima adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a JBL premium audio system and level 2 autonomous driving technologies.

Damien Dally, managing director of Fiat UK, said: “At Fiat, we believe in electric for all. We believe it’s crucial that we continue to work towards making electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for people across the UK.

“That’s why we’re putting our money where our mouth is again to encourage customers to go electric.

“Our effort to reduce prices means the Fiat 500e is now one of the most affordable electric vehicles you can drive today – which we are proud to be able to say.

“We want UK drivers to be able to experience a taste of the sweet life behind the wheel of our multi award winning 500e. Hopefully this means more people will be able to experience La Dolce Vita.”
