Fastned launches in Spain, expanding ultra-fast charging network to nine European countries

European EV charging operator Fastned has inaugurated its first two ultra-fast charging stations in Spain, marking a major step in its plan to create a seamless high-speed network spanning the continent.

The new sites — Garraf Norte and Garraf Sur — are located on the C-32 motorway between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cubelles near Barcelona. Each site houses four fast chargers, offering a combined 16 charging points delivering up to 400 kW per charger. The technology enables drivers to add up to 300 km of range in just 15 minutes, depending on vehicle capacity.

The opening on 9 October 2025 was attended by representatives from Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the city councils of both Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cubelles, signalling strong public-private collaboration in the rollout of high-quality EV infrastructure.

Both new stations feature Fastned’s signature Solar Tree canopies, designed to provide shelter, generate renewable energy, and make stations instantly recognisable from the road. The canopies — finalists at the 2025 DesignEuropa Awards — also symbolise the company’s focus on sustainability and architectural innovation.

Fastned’s drive-through design allows motorists to charge without parking or reversing into bays, a layout praised for safety and efficiency.

“Our mission in Spain is clear, as in every country where we operate: to accelerate the transition to ultra-rapid, high-quality electric mobility accessible to all,” said Inma Cima, Country Manager for Fastned Spain.

“These first two charging stations represent a strong start to our expansion. Our goal is to build a solid and reliable network, driving EV adoption and promoting a cleaner, more efficient energy future for Spain.”

Fastned’s arrival comes amid record growth in Spain’s electric vehicle market. EV market share reached 9.4% in June 2025, and the number of fully electric cars on Spanish roads is up 26% year-on-year, underlining both the country’s commitment to greener transport and the urgent need for fast-charging infrastructure along strategic routes.

The new stations form part of Fastned’s partnership with road operator Autopistas, designed to develop a nationwide network of high-quality charging sites. The company already has 13 additional locations secured across Spain, covering key transit corridors and metropolitan areas.

With the Spanish launch, Fastned now operates in nine European countries, spanning the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, Denmark, Italy, and Spain.

Founded in 2012, the Amsterdam-based company aims to reach 1,000 stations by 2030, each built to deliver a premium, sustainable, and efficient charging experience. Fastned’s network uses 100% renewable energy and is strategically located along highways, major commuter routes, and urban hubs.

“Our arrival in Spain marks a milestone in Fastned’s mission to drive the transition to electric mobility across Europe,” said Michiel Langezaal, Co-founder and CEO of Fastned.
“We are excited to offer a superior charging experience to Spanish drivers and to contribute meaningfully to the decarbonisation of transport in the region. These stations are just the starting point for our rapid expansion throughout Spain.”

Analysts say Fastned’s combination of strong visual branding, ultra-rapid charging capability, and focus on customer experience gives it a distinctive edge in Europe’s crowded charging market.

The company’s transparent pricing, renewable-energy sourcing, and station reliability — with uptime consistently above 99% — have helped build consumer trust in northern Europe and are expected to accelerate EV adoption in southern markets.

As Spain seeks to install 100,000 public charging points by 2030 under its national decarbonisation plan, Fastned’s entrance adds a powerful boost to infrastructure capacity at a time when convenience and reliability remain decisive factors for drivers considering the switch to electric.
