Chery Tiggo 9 coming to UK with 7 seats and 91-mile PHEV range

Newcomer Chinese brand Chery has launched its new Tiggo 9 CHS plug-in hybrid in the UK promising up to 650 miles of range and class-leading equipment levels.

The Tiggo 9 CHS joins the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 in the brand’s line-up as its new flagship model, bringing seven seats, an 819-litre boot and an all-wheel-drive powertrain as standard.

Priced at £43,105, the Tiggo 9 CHS uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and two electric motors to produce a startling 422bhp and 428lb ft. That means this Skoda Kodiaq rival can sprint from 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds.

Power for the two electric motors comes from a 34.46kWh battery which Chery claims will offer up to 91 miles of all-electric driving. Once depleted, the battery accepts rapid charging at up to 71kW – unusually quick for a plug-in hybrid. That allows a 30-80% top up in 18 minutes. It also supports vehicle-to-load charging to power small appliances.

In combination with the petrol motor, Chery says the Tiggo 9 has a range of more than 650 miles.

The Tiggo 9 is offered in one simple trim level named Summit. Like other Chinese brands, there’s an emphasis on throwing everything at the car. The first two rows get heated and ventilated seats, which also offer a massage and memory function in the front two. Even rear seat passengers get air conditioning vents and there’s noise-insulating glass to improve refinement, plus an air purification system.

Most functions are controlled via a 15.6-inch central touchscreen which supports wireless Android and Apple mirroring, and there’s a 14-speaker Sony stereo including headrest-mounted speakers.

A powered tailgate, surround view camera, parking assistance and (God help us) 19 driver assistance systems are also standard, along with full LED lighting and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Like Chery’s other models, there is no options list for the Tiggo 9, just a choice of five exterior colours.

Orders for the Tiggo 9 are open now, with first UK customer deliveries expected in December.

As well as releasing cars under its own name, Chery is the parent company of Omoda and Jaecoo, who both arrived in the UK in late 2024 and offer a range of hybrid and all-electric SUVs aiming to disrupt the market.
