It’s official: Alfa Romeo Giulietta EV and electric-only SUV are on the way
Alfa Romeo has confirmed that an Giulietta hatchback EV and an all-new, electric-only SUV are in the works, albeit without a specific arrival date for now.
Just days after parent company Stellantis’s 2026 Investor Day, the much-loved Italian brand confirmed that it is developing a C-segment electric hatchback to rival the likes of the upcoming electric Volkswagen Golf.
The Giulietta EV will ride on the new Stellantis STLA One architecture, which is compatible with with both fully-electric and internal combustion powertrains. The flexible nature of the this new platform also allows it to underpin everything from the Vauxhall Corsa supermini to the seven-seat Peugeot E-5008 SUV.
Additional elements of STLA One include steer-by-wire, and BYD-style ‘cell-to-body’ battery integration into the chassis to improve rigidity and packaging over existing Stellantis EVs.
STLA One also comes with the ‘STLA Brain’, which is a centralised software system for the powertrain and infotainment system. With the launch of the EX60 and its SPA3 platform earlier this year, Volvo adopted a similar approach for scalability and cost reduction across its EV range.
No arrival date has been announced for the Giulietta EV, but if Alfa Romeo wants to take on the likes of the electric VW Golf, it is most likely scheduled for the end of the 2020s. Note also, that while Stellantis still owns the trademark to the Giulietta name, it remains to be seen whether it will be added to this electric model.
The all-electric Alfa Romeo hatch wasn’t the only surprise Stellantis dropped at the recent Investor Day. A new, all-electric C-segment Alfa Romeo SUV is also in the pipeline. Once again riding on STLA One architecture, this mid-sized premium model will be aimed at the likes of the Skoda Elroq and the Toyota C-HR+ when it debuts.
Again, an exact arrival date is yet to be confirmed. Yet given the combustion-powered Tonale SUV has just been given a mid-life refresh, this replacement model could arrive within a year.
