Formula E: Guenther named as Nissan e.dams’ new driver for season 8
Maximilian Guenther has been confirmed as the new driver for Nissan e.dams’ Formula E team ahead of season eight.
Guenther finished in 16th position in the Drivers’ Championship for BMW i Andretti Motorsport last season and will now team up with Sebastien Buemi from next year, replacing Oliver Rowland.
The German racer has shown good pace in the all-electric Formula E racing series, with three victories to his name, with his latest coming in New York this year. This follows success in junior categories, where he became runner-up in the FIA Formula 3 Championship scoring a total of ten race wins. He then moved up into FIA Formula 2 taking a race victory and a podium. Guenther started his rookie season in Formula E in 2018, claiming his first win and becoming the youngest race winner in the history of the sport at the time.
Guenther said: “It makes me feel very proud to become part of the Nissan e.dams family. The team has big ambitions in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and I’m full of motivation to contribute to the success of this project. To compete for one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world is an honour and a great new step in my career. I’m looking forward to this exciting journey.”
Tommaso Volpe, Nissan global motorsports director: “We are excited to see the passion and drive Maximilian will bring to the team. During his Formula E debut season, the young driver clinched his first ever victory and became the youngest race winner in the series’ history.”
Guenther’s new teammate, Sebastien Buemi, also commented: “It’s great news to be partnering with Maximilian from season eight. He’s an impressive driver with lots of pace, and I can’t wait to work together with him. I feel like we’re in a great place to pursue success and hopefully clinch some victories next season.”
