Vauxhall Frontera: 248-mile range and seven-seat option confirmed

Vauxhall has revealed further details of its new Frontera EV ahead of the car’s launch later this year.

The British brand announced in April that it was reviving the Frontera name for its new budget-friendly compact SUV and has now confirmed that the electric version will come with a choice of two battery sizes, offering up to 248 miles of range.

While Vauxhall didn’t reveal the battery capacities, it did confirm that the long range version will return almost 250 miles on a single charge while the smaller unit will have a maximum range of 186 miles. We’d expect the regular model to use a 44kWh battery set to feature in the Citroen e-C3 Aircross, and the long range model may get the 52kWh unit found in the Mokka.

Vauxhall did say that both batteries will support 100kW DC charging and supply power to a 111bhp motor, just like the Aircross.

The marque also revealed that the Frontera – which sits between the Mokka and Grandland in size – will be offered as a seven-seater in ‘the near future’. It has already promised that the 4.38m Frontera will boast family friendly space and practicality, with a 450-litre boot, expandable to 1,600 litres.

Like every current Vauxhall model, the Frontera will be offered in Design, GS and Ultimate versions when it goes on sale later this year. There’s still no word on pricing but the Frontera is expected to sit beneath the Mokka, which is priced from around £30,000.
