Renault Vision 4Rescue is a firefighting mobile command centre with an drone and 4×4

Renault has taken the wraps off its Renault Vision 4Rescue, a concept version of its Renault 4 EV created as a mobile command centre vehicle with assistance from the French fire services.

Designed to provide more efficient, coordinated responses for the fire brigade, the Renault 4-based Vision 4Rescue has box on the roof housing an observation drone, along with other communication equipment for restoring communications in the afternath of a large-scale fire or any other major disaster.

In the upper section of the split boot, the rear parcel shelf is replaced by a sliding desktop and two screens connected to a high-powered computer, transforming the Vision 4Rescue into a mobile command centre. From here, crews can control the observation drone and communicate with team members on the ground via the antennae in the roofbox.

In the boot’s lower section, two storage boxes hold firefighter equipment including helmets, turnout gear, bags, plus tablets and walkie-talkies that are charged at all times.

Like the Renault Embleme concept, the Vision4 Rescue is a celebration of European collaboration. The vehicle uses 20 interconnected tech solutions, which are part of an ecosystem developed by Software République – a coming together of seven French companies, including the Renault Group.

In design terms, the Renault Vision 4Rescue reflects the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 concept it unveiled earler this year. Both cars enjoy an extra 115mm of ground clearance over the standard Renault 4. They also benefit from a dual-motor, 4×4 drivetrain.

The Vision 4Rescue is finished in Renault’s striking ‘Construction Red’ paint, and finished with fluourescent yellow emergency service and ‘4’ graphics.

The words ‘RESCUE’ and ‘SAPEURS POMPIERS’ (fire services), along with the 112 and 18 numbers – those used in France to call the emergency services – towards the rear of the car are finished in the same colour. Underneath, a blue LED light strip adds even further visibility.

Meanwhile, the retro-inspired grey bumpers of the Renault 4 have been replaced by 3D-printed shock-absorbing units finished with a ‘PinPon’ pattern. According to Renault, the name reflects the sound emitted by French emergency service vehicles.

Inside the Vision 4Rescue, a reflective strip on the inside of the rear doors assists with visibility in poor conditions, while a dashboard-mounted metal bar can be used as a grab handle or support for walkie talkies. The metal bar is also engraved with the words ‘Je te reçois 4 sur 4’ or ‘reading you loud and clear.

Just like the regular, non-firefighting Renault 4, the Vision 4Rescue’s upholstery is made from 19.3% recycled materials. However, its seats – once again finished with the ‘PinPon’ pattern – are partially made from the recycled foam used to make firefighting suits,
