Kia EV6 price cut to under £40,000
Kia has cut the entry price of its award-winning EV6 by more than £5,000 with the introduction of a new ‘standard range’ battery.
The Kia EV6 Air standard range costs from £39,235, bringing the sleek family crossover beneath the expensive car supplement tax threshold. The previous entry level Air model started at £45,585.
Kia says the new model is aimed at “price-sensitive customers who still nevertheless want the practicality, capability and modern design offered by the EV6”.
Key to the price cut is a new 63kWh battery which replaces the 84kWh unit found in other versions of the EV6. Kia says this smaller, cheaper battery will return up to 265 miles on a charge, compared with 361 miles for the Air model equipped with the 84kWh unit.
The entry-level car also gets a slightly less powerful motor. Its 167bhp rear-mounted unit allows a 0-62mph time of 8.7 seconds rather than the 7.7 of more expensive 225bhp models. Peak charging rates are also lower at 195kW compared with 258kW for more expensive versions. That’s is still ahead of most rivals and still allows a 10-80% charge in 18 minutes at a compatible device.
Away from the powertrain changes, the new model offers the same standard specification as the EV6 Air with the larger battery. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, keyless entry and start, heated front seats and steering wheel. Twin 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple and Android phone mirroring are also fitted, along with adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The interior is finished in black cloth and artificial leather, and buyers can opt for one of four premium exterior paint finishes which, priced at £675, just keep the car under the £40,000 ECS threshold.
Orders for the new model are open now, with first customer deliveries due to start later in May.
