XPeng X9 coming to UK to challenge the VW ID Buzz
Xpeng has confirmed it will launch its flagship X9 people carrier in the UK later this year.
The high-end seven-seater will arrive this summer as part of the brand’s rapid expansion plan for the UK, sitting above the soon-to-be-updated G6 SUV.
After the X9 and updated G6, the Chinese brand said it planned to introduce further new models to the UK before the end of 2026.
It didn’t confirm which additional models would arrive, but they could include the P7+, which made its dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, and the Kia EV9-rivalling G9 SUV.
Xpeng describes the X9 as its flagship luxury model for families and businesses seeking “intelligent, all-electric long-range capability in a versatile but dynamic model”.
A large “starship-inspired” MPV with a radical angular design, it’s likely to compete with the recently announced Hyundai Staria EV and Volkswagen ID Buzz in the premium seven-seat space. An unusual 2+2+3 seating arrangement features electrically adjustable captain’s chairs in the middle row and a traditional bench seat in the rear. It also offers up to 2,554 litres of boot space.
The Z9 comes with real wood trim, a built-in fridge in the centre console, drop-down screen for rear passengers and a huge panoramic roof, as well as massage seats and a 23-speaker sound system.
Underpinning the Xpeng X9 is the firm’s SEPA2.0 800V architecture, which allows DC charging at up to 330kW and can add 205 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Xpeng hasn’t disclosed the X9’s battery capacity but says it will cover up to 436 miles on the super-lenient CLTP test cycle. Expect a WLTP range of closer to 350 miles.
An all-wheel-drive setup delivers up to 496bhp and 472bhp for 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds, putting its Korean and German rivals in the shade, while four-wheel-steering helps with manoeuvrability.
Before the X9’s arrival, Xpeng will launch its updated G6, bringing even more power and faster charging to its Tesla Model Y rival.

Xpeng says it has made 20,000 incremental upgrades to the G6 to improve the chassis, suspension and steering as well as powertrain and battery operation, refinement and interior quality.
DC charging now tops out at 451kW and the range gets a new Dual-Motor AWD Performance Black Edition with 480bhp and a 0-62mph time of just 4.1 seconds. That version will cost £49,990 while the rest of the G6 range remains priced as before, with prices from £39,990 for the Rear-Wheel Drive Standard Range and £44,990 for the Long-Range.
