Updated BMW i4 now more powerful than M4 CS with 592bhp

BMW has improved its all-electric i4 with a raft of summer 2025 updates, including a longer range for the eDrive35 and eDrive40 models, and an M4 CS-besting 592bhp for the range-topping i4 M60 xDrive.

The biggest change to the entry-level BMW i4 eDrive35 and mid-tier eDrive40 is the addition of new silicon carbide inverters to their electric drivetrain as way of reducing both cars’ energy consumption rates by 4.5%. This gives the single motor eDrive35 an improved range of up to 319 miles. Meanwhile, the eDrive40 can travel 380 miles on a single charge.

The flagship, twin-motor BMW i4 M60 xDrive receives from a new electric powertrain producing 592bhp, making light of the 0-62mph time run in just 3.2. seconds. This latest top-tier i4 replaces the 537bhp i4 M40. The added power, however, sees the M60’s range drop to 269 miles.

In performance terms, the i4 M60 produces 50bhp more than the track-focused M4 CS. However, it is priced from £70,910 – some £50,000 less than its hardcore, petrol-powered super-coupé cousin. The eDrive35 starts at £51,280, while the eDrive40 begins at £59,375.

As part of these summer 2025 updates, BMW said that it will introduce an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery in all of its new or used electric cars brought from April 1 this year. The warranty will fix any battery capacity losses below 70% at no extra cost.

BMW’s all-electric flagships will also undergo a series of improvements. The i7 saloon now gets laminated safety glass as standard. From summer 2025, the luxury barge will be offered with optional comfort glazing, sun protection glazing, and a Heat Comfort package.

At that same time, the iX SUV will become available with optional Frozen Pure Grey metallic paint. Earlier in the year, the iX underwent a series of further updates including an extended range of up to 426 miles, and an increased power output of 650bhp for the performance-focused M70 xDrive model.
