Smart #5 to get 366 miles of range and up to 400kW charging in Europe

Smart has announced that its #5 SUV will get up to 366 miles of range and 400kW DC charging when it comes to the European market later this year.

Models from the mid-tier Pro+ upwards come with a 100kWh battery, 358bhp, and return a 366-mile range from their rear-mounted motor.

All-wheel drive Smart #5 models benefit from an increased 579bhp anda 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds, but have a lesser range of 355 miles. Meanwhile, the entry-level ‘Pro’ model is rear-wheel drive only, returns a 288-mile range, and has a 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds. All models come with 800V electric architecture as standard which allows for DC charging at up to 400kW, making the Smart #5 among the fastest-charging EVs on sale and allowing for a 10-80% top-up in 18 minutes.

Along with the range and technical details, Smart has revealed European pricing for its largest car yet. Entry-level Pro models will start at around £38,700, £42,000 for the Pro+, and £46,000 for the higher-end Plus and Premium models. Meanwhile, the outdoorsy-focused Summit Edition comes with a pricetag of approximately £47,000 .

The #5 is the brand’s third EV in three years, and will be electric-only in Europe. Other markets will also receive a hybrid version of Smart’s answer to the Ford Explorer, Skoda Enyaq, and Volkswagen ID.4.

Smart Europe CEO, Dirk Adelmann commented: “We are proud to launch the smart #5 as our first-ever mid-size family SUV in Europe, built on an advanced 800-Volt platform for superior efficiency and performance. As our most versatile model to date, the smart #5 combines range, usability, and future-proof technology. This milestone, coinciding with smart Europe’s fifth anniversary, showcases our international team’s innovation and engineering expertise.”

The Smart #5 will be initially available in Europe in Germany, with order books opening on April 24, 2025. Further European rollouts for the brand’s flagship SUV are scheduled for Q2 and Q3 this year.

The Smart #5 will be joined by the Geely-owned manufacturer’s first four-door sedan, the Smart #6, towards the end of this year. The Mercedes CLA sedan-sized car is expected to return 638bhp in Brabus form; thus making it the most powerful Smart ever made.
