Renault 5 Roland-Garros serves up tennis-inspired special edition

Renault has launched the first special edition of its latest EV with the introduction of the Renault 5 Roland-Garros edition.

Price at £29,995, the new model sits at the top of the Renault 5 range and features a series of tennis-theme design elements paying tribute to the famous Roland-Garros tournament.

Building on the Iconic grade, the new Renault 5 Roland-Garros comes with unique 18-inch diamond-cut ‘Electro’ alloy wheels and the option of an exclusive ‘Shadow Grey’ matte paint finish, alongside Arctic White, Midnight Blue, Diamond Black. It also gets satin finished chrome detailing and a unique Cross of Saint Andrew design featuring a Roland-Garros logo, on the front doors.

The Saint Andrew’s Cross motif is continued on the brushed aluminium door sills and inside, the Roland-Garros gets exclusive light grey upholstery that is made from 100% recycled materials and is, apparently, a cross between sports clothing and upholstery fabric. The seats are inset with a contrasting dark blue that’s continued on the door cards and dashboard, where a special backlit Roland-Garros’ nameplate also marks out the special edition.

Really leaning into the tennis angle, the tip of the e-pop shifter is inspired by the grip of a tennis racket, with the Roland-Garros logo at the end. The centre console features a clay-coloured wireless smartphone charger, which is echoed in floor mats with a clay-coloured contours.

Like other comfort grade cars, the Renault 5 Roland-Garros edition uses the larger 52kWh battery for a WLTP range of 252 miles. Orders for the special edition are open now to Renault R-Pass holders.

Renault is not the first French brand to partner with the famous tennis tournament. Peugeot has sold a series of Roland-Garros editions over the years, starting with the 205 and 405 in 1989 and concluding with the 2015 208.
