The all-electric Renault 5 hatchback and its hot-hatch sibling, the Alpine A290, are now available with a widebody aftermarket bodykit developed by Milltek Design and inspired by the World Rally Championship’s Group B era.

The Milltek Design team riffed on the design of the rear-wheel-drive, turbocharged Group B Renault 5 Maxi, which claimed outright victory on the Tour de Corse in 1982 and 1985 courtesy of Jean Ragnotti.

Like the Renault 5 Turbo, the bodykit adopts flared wheel arches front and rear, along with front bumper arches, a front arch charge port flap, plus aggressive rear door arch covers. A rear high-level spoiler and aluminium side skirt kit are available as individual components, while the uprated DRL (daytime running light) system is exclusive to the Alpine A290.

Unveiled at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the team at Milltek described the Group B-inspired aesthetic as “OEM+”, and the kit was confirmed from £2,000 plus VAT, with production scheduled from autumn this year.

The Renault 5 E-Tech and its hot hatch sibling, the Alpine A290, have been named the European Car of the Year (COTY) award at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show.

Its components use original equipment (OE) fitting points and fasteners wherever possible to ensure factory-level installation quality without any irreversible modifications to the car’s original body.

Upon arrival, Milltek’s technical operations manager, Kev Hall, revealed that his team had been working on the bodykit since the R5 and the A290 went on sale in the UK last year.

“As Group B enthusiasts, this was on the drawing board the day after we saw the first Renault 5!’ he explained. “After months of hard work under a considerable FOS deadline, the Design team has delivered something truly special.

“This kit gives Renault 5 and Alpine A290 owners a genuine wide-body transformation that’s engineered to the highest standards, fully reversible, and priced to be genuinely attainable. We’re excited to show the prototype at Goodwood and get these onto customers’ cars very soon.”

The Renault 5 is priced from £21,495 for the entry-level Evolution trim, while the A290 starts from £30,243 for the base-model GT. Both prices include the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant. Add the Milltek Design Group B package, and both cars’ asking prices will rise to £23,495 and £32,343 respectively.

Despite acknowledging one of the WRC’s most iconic time periods, the bodykit remains casual only. Therefore, the R5’s maximum power output remains at 148bhp with the 52kWh battery car. The A290 adds some extra performance, with up to 217bhp on higher-spec GT Performance and GTS models.

However, the Renault 5 Turbo 3e is the ultimate tribute to Renault’s Group B era, courtesy of 547bhp from its tri-motor system. Each of the 1,980 units – a nod to the year the original R5 Turbo was launched – has sold out for at least £140,000.
