Polestar promises performance cars “superior” to BMW M and Mercedes AMG

Polestar has confirmed it will focus more on performance as it pledges to develop sporting models as one of its three core brand pillars alongside design and sustainability.

Speaking to a group of journalists at the Swedish EV carmaker’s HQ in Gothenburg, Polestar CEO, Michael Loscheller, said: “In terms of how we will continue to deliver performance with our future models, I think we’re going to deliver a more consistent way in terms of performance cars, in terms of the specifications.

“We want to focus a bit more on performance, because that is where we can do even better going forward, on track, on acceleration, but also in terms of being superior to others.”

It’s not yet known where Polestar’s future performance ambitions will lie, but speculation suggests the line of cars could wear the ‘BST’ nameplate.

Polestar 2 BST

Short for ‘Beast’, the first BST car was the limited-run Polestar 2 BST Edition 270, which launched in 2023 with chassis tuning, 469bhp, and a beefy bodykit – complete with bonnet stripe – indicating that this was no ordinary P2. Adding to its exclusivity is the fact that just 40 arrived in the UK and were sold out.

The following year, a BST version of the Polestar 6 roadster concept car was unveiled.

Alongside its performance car ambitions, Polestar recently announced its biggest-ever new product offensive. Over the next three years, it confirmed that it will add four new EVs to its lineup. It will begin with the launch of the Polestar 5, and follow that up with a compact SUV named the Polestar 7.

The brand’s oldest model, the 2, will also be replaced during this time period, and wagon enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the Polestar 4 coupe-crossover will transition into an estate. No word has been given on whether the Polestar 3 full-sized SUV will be updated, replaced, or discontinued.
