Polestar offers battery health check and free charger with used Polestar 2

Polestar has introduced a battery health report for secondhand examples of its Polestar 2 EV.

From April, the Swedish EV maker will provide customers of its pre-owned services with a simple certificate of battery health, showing the car’s remaining usable battery capacity as a percentage.

The health report comes in addition to a standard 112-point vehicle check carried out on all secondhand Polestar models.

Despite reassuring evidence from recent surveys, the long-term health of EV batteries remains an issue of concern for some buyers, particularly around used EVs. Polestar says its new service addresses this and “gives customers peace of mind that their battery is in peak health and reassurance that many more miles of hassle-free motoring is ahead of them”.

The Labour government previously said it wanted to introduce a standardised battery health check for used EVs and there have been recent calls for it to follow through on this promise in order to help boost consumer confidence. Other services, including trade auctioneer BCA and start-up Generational have introduced their own battery health check services to help buyers and sellers in the secondhand EV sphere.

Alongside the new battery health report, Polestar announced that customers buying a used car from it will benefit from a free Zaptec home charger and low interest rates until the end of April.

The marque is also preparing to open its first dedicated pre-owned retail space. In May, it will launch a standalone site in Birmingham, focussing purely on used Polestars. This will operate separately from the main Polestar Space in Erdington.

Matt Galvin, managing director of Polestar UK said: “As more pre-owned Polestars start to come on the market, it offers a lower price entry-point to join the Polestar family and experience our performance EVs with all the software features of our new cars.

“And where customers may have been apprehensive about a five-year-old Polestar 2 and its battery condition, once again Polestar is giving car buyers transparency and providing peace of mind in the same way we do with our climate impact.”
