Omoda and Jaecoo have sold more than 100,000 cars in Britain in less than two years, a pace of growth that would have looked fanciful when the first Omoda showroom opened its doors.

The Chery-owned dual brand now accounts for almost 5.7% of the UK market, trades through more than 144 retail sites and fields a line-up spanning petrol, full hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric power. That puts it squarely in the path of the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and MG HS.

Omoda launched here on 31 August 2024, with Jaecoo following in January 2025. Both have expanded their model ranges at speed since, covering several vehicle segments between them.

The Jaecoo 7 has been the engine room of the operation. It has been a fixture in Britain’s ten best-selling cars since September 2025 and in March 2026 it stormed to the top of the UK sales charts outright.

More than 53,000 examples have been registered since the SUV went on sale in February 2025, and 66% of those went to private retail buyers rather than fleets, a split most legacy manufacturers would take in a heartbeat.

The flagship SHS-P plug-in hybrid does most of the damage, accounting for 75% of customer choices. Not everyone is convinced by the way it drives, mind. Our review of the Jaecoo 7 SHS found the steering and ride hard to forgive, however keen the pricing.

The Omoda 5 was the first car the operation put on British roads and it has quietly built a following of its own, with more than 36,500 sold and 71% of those going to retail customers. Buyers get three choices: a TGDi petrol, SHS-H full hybrid or a fully electric version, covering a broad spread of budgets and mileage patterns.

The wider family has filled out quickly. Omoda now offers the 5, 7 and flagship 9, while Jaecoo counters with the 5, 7 and new range-topping 8. Between them the pair cover every mainstream powertrain going.

Network and aftersales investment has kept pace, with those 144-plus retail sites backed by spending on logistics, parts distribution and customer support. RAC roadside assistance has also been extended across Europe, sitting alongside the warranty and ownership package.

The rise is part of a broader shift, with Chinese manufacturers steadily eating into UK new car registration figures. Omoda&Jaecoo was also among the handful of carmakers to hit its ZEV mandate target in its first year here through sales rather than certificate trading.

Brand-building has been aggressive, taking in London Fashion Week, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, EPCR Finals Weekend and SMMT Test Day. Awards have followed: Best Family Plug-in Hybrid for the Omoda 9 from The Car Expert, Auto Trader’s Best Value New Car for the Omoda 5, and Carwow’s Brand of the Year 2026 for Jaecoo.

Omoda&Jaecoo UK sits within Chery International UK, and parent Chery Group recently passed 20 million global vehicle sales, giving the British arm serious industrial backing.

More launches, more retailers and further customer initiatives are promised for the rest of 2026 and beyond. Established rivals would be unwise to assume the run stops here.
