NIO shares images of ET5 saloon which boasts 600-mile range

Chinese EV manufacturer NIO has revealed its new mid-size smart electric saloon, the ET5, at the company’s NIO Day 2021.

The new electric vehicle will offer a range of batter options, with a 75kWh model claiming a range of more than 340 miles, and a 100kWh version which will boast a range of over 434 miles. In addition, a premium 150kWh model is also scheduled, which will supposedly offer a range of 621 miles.

NIO has priced the 75kWh ET5 at RMB 328,000, equivalent to around £38,000, with the 100kWh model starting from around £45,750.

The car “evokes NIO’s supercar DNA,” according to the firm, and will feature all-wheel drive with a 201bhp electric motor, achieving a total of 482bhp and 700Nm of torque. It claims the ET5 will be able to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.3 seconds.

The design is similar to a Tesla Model 3, with NIO citing “muscular haunches” inspired by the brands EP9 supercar. The body also features a rear ducktail spoiler and precision details such as the air curtain, flush doorhandles, soft close doors and frameless windows that create cleaner lines and improved aerodynamic efficiency.

The Tesla influence continues on the inside, with a 12.8” central touchscreen, as well as a 10.2-inch digital driver display. As well as this, the ET5 features a range of recycled and more sustainable materials and a large glasshouse and panoramic glazed roof.

In addition, the ET5 comes with the latest NIO Autonomous Driving, with the full list of features being gradually rolled out after further development and validation.

Deliveries for the ET5 are expected to be in September 2022 for China, with details on other markets yet to be released.

After entering Norway earlier this year, NIO is planning to introduce its products and user-centric services to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark in 2022. By 2025, NIO also hopes to establish its presence in over 25 countries and regions worldwide.
