New 2024 Porsche Taycan gets range, acceleration and charging boosts
Porsche has updated the Taycan with up to 421 miles of range, faster charging and a power boost to 939bhp for its range-topping Turbo S model.
The 2024 updates include upgrades to the motor and battery packs, as well as chassis improvements and software changes to improve efficiency.
All Taycans come with a new rear motor offering up to an additional 107bhp. In the range topping all-wheel-drive Taycan Turbo S that takes maximum power to 939bhp when using the launch control and overboost functions. That cuts the Turbo S’s 0-62mph time from 2.8 seconds to just 2.4 seconds. Even entry-level Taycans have seen a power boost, to 402bhp, and a 0.6-second reduction in their 0-62mph time.
There are two new battery options. A standard 89kWh unit replaces the previous 79.2kWh one and offers up to 367 miles of range in the rear-wheel-drive Taycan saloon. The performance battery plus has also been upgraded from 93kWh to 105kWh, offering up to 421 miles on a single charge – a massive 109-mile increase. New software, heat pump, improved thermal management and revised recuperation settings contribute to the improvements.
The new Taycan’s DC charging rate has increased from an already impressive 270kW to 320kW to feed the new batteries. At the same time, the fast-charging window has been expanded to allow ultra-rapid charging for longer and at lower temperatures. Porsche says this cuts charging times for a 10-80% top-up from 37 minutes to just 18 minutes, despite the increase in battery capacity.
All versions of Taycan now come with adaptive air suspension as standard, and this can be upgraded with Active Ride for an even broader mix of comfort and dynamic options. Standard equipment has also been upgraded to include parking assist; power steering plus; steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector; heated front seats; Porsche Intelligent Range Manager; a heat pump with new cooling system; wireless phone charging, and twin charging ports on both sides of the car.
Styling updates bring new flatter front lights in new wings, and updated rear lights and Turbo models get further details, including a bespoke Turbonite trim colour, to differentiate them further.
The new Porsche Taycan is available to order now. Prices start at £86,500 for the entry-level Taycan, rising to £162,100 for the Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo.
