Mercedes-Maybach VLS ushers in new era of ultra-luxury electric MPV
Mercedes has issued a teaser image of its Maybach range-topping VLS, which shares its electric-only, VAN.EA platform with the VLE luxury people carrier.
Unveiled at the launch of the updated Maybach S-Class, the Maybach VLS was described by Mercedes chief Ola Källenius as a “grand limousine” with a “first-class interior” and a cabin Mercedes describes as akin to an “extraordinary private lounge”.
Like the VLE pictured below, the Maybach VLS is expected to come with various seating configurations, including an ultra-luxurious two-seat arrangement similar to that showcased on 2025’s Vision V concept vehicle. These seats get pillows, along with calf and lumbar support, plus a massage function and integrated wireless phone charging.

Besides the three ‘M’ Maybach logo on the VLS’ C-pillar, no additional images or information about the VLS’ opulent cabin have been announced.
Nonetheless, we expect it to include a variant of the VLE’s optional ‘MBUX Rear Space Experience’ that adds a 31.3-inch 8K screen and an eight-megapixel camera to support watching films, gaming, or joining video conferences.
Technical details are equally scant, but given its shared running gear with the VLE, we expect the Maybach VLS to have a similar maximum range of 435 miles courtesy of a huge 115kWh battery paired with a 268bhp motor. What’s more, the dedicated EV 800V architecture means the VLE can onboard 220 miles of charge in a mere 15 minutes.

The VLE will launch later this year, with the Maybach VLS arriving in 2027. Given its opulent cabin and illustrious nameplate, the VLS is expected to come with a six-figure price tag.
The Maybach VLS is symbolic of a recent upswing in demand for luxurious electrified minivans, with the Lexus LM, LEVC L380 and the China-exclusive Volvo EM90 its main competitors. Further down the scale, mid-range electric MPVs include the Volkswagen ID Buzz and the Kia PV5.
