Luxury Lotus joins London’s Uber fleet
Uber users in London will be able to travel in high-end electric style from today thanks to a new partnership.
The ride-sharing app is adding the Lotus Eletre to its capital fleet for a limited time, giving passengers a chance to experience the Norfolk firm’s new flagship for themselves.
A 600bhp+ hyper-SUV isn’t the most obvious choice for an Uber car but the tie-up is part of an ‘EV pop-up’ promotion that will see Uber showcase innovative electric models via its Uber Green fleet.
Riders will be able to book one of the fleet of Eletres through the Uber Green option, which lets them specify they only want to use electric vehicles. Uber announced the new EV-only option at a recent tech conference after trialling it in London, where almost 30% of Uber miles are already done in fully electric vehicles.
Andrew Brem, general manager for Uber UK, said: “We’re thrilled to team up with Lotus to combine cutting-edge luxury with sustainable travel. Uber drivers are already leading the way, going electric far quicker than regular motorists – making London Uber’s global capital for electrification. Now we’re excited to allow our riders to experience one of the world’s most exciting electric cars.”
Conor Horne, commercial director of UK and Ireland at Lotus said: “We are incredibly excited to partner with Uber to have a fleet of our all-electric Lotus Eletre available in London via the app for passengers to experience and enjoy. We hope this initiative will not only enhance the riding experience for Uber customers but also contribute to a greener city, something we at Lotus are very passionate about.”
Alongside the Lotus tie-up, Uber has launched a competition to encourage more passengers to choose the electric option. The rider who saves the most emissions through using EVs by the end of November will win free Uber Green rides for 10 years.
